ATLANTA, April 16, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Cumberland Academy of Georgia, an Atlanta-based special needs school, is launching a new student employment program in conjunction with the Tommy Nobis Center. Cumberland's "Creating Futures" program will spearhead efforts with the Tommy Nobis Center to provide valuable work experience and encourage post-graduate success for students. Creating Futures begins supporting students in the 8th grade by assisting with resume and work experience as well as college placement. As part of the program, work experience provides life skills training to prepare students for post-graduate success.

The skills acquired through this program cannot be replicated in a classroom, and our staff is excited for participating students to grow professionally," said Debbi Scarborough, founding director and headmaster at Cumberland.
The Tommy Nobis Center was founded to help individuals with disabilities enter or return to employment. They operate under a mission to empower through employment and have developed employment opportunities with Atlanta grocery stores, hospitals and tech companies.
Students in the program will participate in a week-long training course. After training, each student will report for work at the Tommy Nobis Center and be placed in paid career opportunities. The first training session begins on May 20, 2019.
Cumberland Academy of Georgia has a reputation of implementing innovative programs aimed to further the education and success of its' students. Through partnerships with other schools and organizations, like the Tommy Nobis Center, LexisNexis Risk Solutions and Chick-fil-A, the school has given its' students access to mentors, employment, educational resources and volunteer opportunities.

Creating Futures was built around the goal to provide students with the tools they need to be successful after graduation. As the Creating Futures program develops, Cumberland hopes to build stronger relationships with their current partners and discover more opportunities for students that will prepare them for a lifetime of academic and professional achievement.
