Dalton Reimer is a peace educator in the mode of the traditional storyteller. He calls readers to action around a single vision — making peace a reality by drawing on the unexpected power of stories to transform the world. His book titled “Story-Formed Pathways to Peace: Headline News from Genesis, Jesus and Today” (published by Xlibris) is another step in a journey of nearly three decades interpreting and sharing these stories.
The book retells the family stories of Genesis and Jesus, with commentary that informs all three of the Abrahamic religions of the world: Judaism, Islam and Christianity. It examines each story through the lens of conflict and peacemaking, “showing a way to peace in our time from the ‘no’ to murder to the ‘yes’ to reconciliation.”
Each chapter introduces imagined headlines of the ancient story with actual, parallel headlines from the present, thus highlighting this connection of past and present. Going back those pathways toward peace illuminates possibilities for the present and future. It extends the wisdom tradition of sacred texts.
“Story-Formed Pathways to Peace: Headline News from Genesis, Jesus and Today” prompts readers to rethink their approaches to conflict and peacemaking, affirm what is good in what they have learned in their families of origin and along the way, as well as change destructive behaviors challenged by the modeling of the characters in the stories told.
