PORT CHESTER, N.Y., Sept. 14, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A boom in the sale of home improvement products that began at the start of the pandemic last year appears to still be going strong, according to Dan Singer, co-president of Robison. The full-service home comfort company based in Port Chester has been seeing a steady uptick in equipment purchases and installations that has continued this year.
"After spending so much time in their homes during the pandemic last year, people have become very focused on making a comfortable environment for themselves," said Singer. "We are seeing a continuation of this in 2021. Equipment sales - whether it's air conditioning or heating - have increased and we continue to see a growing demand."
Singer's observations are echoed by national statistics. The Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University projects an annual growth in renovation and repair spending of 4.1% in 2021. Annual expenditures for renovation and repair of owner-occupied homes are expected to rise from $332 billion to $337 billion by the second half of 2021, according to the center.
The trend began when consumers started spending more time at home during the pandemic but is continuing and is expected to pick up pace in 2021 and 2022 as consumers see the benefits of home improvement.
Mark Giardina, HVAC Installation Manager, said Robison has seen equipment orders increase by about 10 percent in 2020 and an additional 10 so far in 2021. This includes HVAC installations and installations of heating pumps as well as indoor air quality solutions.
"We are expecting this trend to continue," he said. "Not only because more people are still working from home, but because home values have risen in our area and people recognize that making home improvements is a way to maximize the value of their homes."
