Danny Dreyer Shares ChiWalking® at National Walking Summit
Washington DC (PRWEB) October 27, 2015 -- The upcoming National Walking Summit intends to rally like-minded thinkers and sponsors to bring about awareness to not only the safe environments needed for walking, but also to the many health benefits walking can brings.
The National Summit says, “Walking can improve health... The National Walking Summit is the premier opportunity… to increase the visibility of these key issues, build support… and create momentum for the work ahead.”
Danny Dreyer, founder of ChiRunning® and ChiWalking® will present Chi Walking: A Mindful Approach to Walking and lead group walks, 7 am Oct 29 and Oct 30, leaving from the lobby of the host hotel: Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. The Walk and Talk presentation will focus on the basic instructions to transform walking into a mindful practice, focusing on injury-prevention, energy-efficiency, range of motion and core strengthening. This activity will take place out-of-doors, so please dress for the weather and for walking.
Walk the "Chi" (pronounced chee) way. In 1999, Danny Dreyer, an ultra-marathoner created ChiRunning® and ChiWalking®, which incorporates ideas from Tai Chi, yoga, and Pilates. It looks like regular walking but teaches conscious relaxation, improves the alignment of the body and puts less stress on the legs while walking. The result is less pain and injury and more effortless, enjoyable walking.
Enhancing the collaborative effort of the Everybody Walks Weekend, Danny and Katherine Dreyer, founders of ChiRunning® and ChiWalking®, are hosting additional workshops Saturday Oct 31. Workshop location: Bethesda Chevy Chase High School. 4301 East-West Hwy. Bethesda, MD 20814, starting at 9am. Register here. Walk-ins welcome.
From the authors of ChiRunning® and ChiWalking® these workshops are a revolutionary program that blends the health benefits of walking with the core principles of Tai Chi to deliver maximum physical, mental, and spiritual fitness. The low-impact health benefits of walking have made it one of the most popular forms of daily exercise. Yet few people experience all the benefits that walking can offer. ChiWalking® emphasizes body alignment and mindfulness while strengthening the core muscles of the body.
Participants will Learn How To:
- Maximize the power of the core to move forward. Most walking injuries occur from the waist down. When movement is initiated from the core, the body’s largest muscle group, the legs are not needed for propulsion. This greatly reduces impact, pain, and risk of injury. A strong core also improves posture, balance, and stability.
- Unite the Upper Body and Lower Body. The Chi techniques are all about keeping energy flowing so the movement is efficient. Learn how to optimize movement to keep the workload balanced between Upper Body and Lower Body.
- Get the results wanted with fitness walking. With good body mechanics and relaxation techniques, endurance improves and speed is gained while preventing fatigue. Walking farther and faster with less effort makes fitness goals a reality.
- Plenty of Practice. Practice walking drills and exercises designed to help instill the technique in the body.
