At first, I thought I might be giving up control of practice but it’s actually quite the opposite. I have complete control of how I work with my clients and I get to do this with the collaboration and support of the firm and my peers.

Dark Horse CPAs, a top accounting and tax firm serving small businesses and individuals across the nation, announces the addition of James Larsen, CPA, owner of JP Larsen & Associates, to the profession’s only democratized CPA firm. Mr. Larsen brings with him over 20 years of experience working strategically with small businesses and individuals in the areas of tax and accounting. With this acquisition, Dark Horse CPAs expands into both the Orange County and Phoenix, AZ markets.

The deal adds additional expertise in multi-state taxation issues, strategic tax planning, tax resolution, and outsourced accounting for small businesses and entrepreneurs. For JP Larsen & Associates, the merger will provide more robust resources, in the form of technology, infrastructure, staffing, marketing and access to deep expertise in a host of practice areas, to take their client service to the next level and scale that book of business to new heights.

Speaking to the reasoning for merging his practice into Dark Horse, James remarked, “it checked all of the boxes. They have all of the resources I’ve been needing to take my practice to the next level, whether that be technology and automation, marketing prowess to attract prospective clients, or the comradery of fellow Dark Horse CPAs that up-level each other daily. Also, the move made a lot of financial sense from the onset due to the profit splits offered at Dark Horse versus what I was paying for on my own. Speaking to his transition, he noted, “at first, I thought I might be giving up control of practice but it’s actually quite the opposite. I have complete control of how I work with my clients and I get to do this with the collaboration and support of the firm and my peers. Moreover, I’m really excited for my clients who will benefit from the increased resources at my disposal and the increased brain power I have to devote to them, not being bogged down by the ins-and-outs of running all aspects of the business myself. And, I’m really excited to see Dark Horse grow and continue to add other firms like mine.”

“James has a very relatable and easy-going way about him that makes his clients and prospective clients feel comfortable,” says Chase Birky, CEO & co-founder of Dark Horse CPAs. “This is the foundation for the strategic advisory he performs for his clients because it’s a fluid and natural relationship that facilitates identifying these opportunities for clients. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know him over the past year or so. He’s not your typical CPA. To me he is the people’s CPA. I’m beyond excited to see his practice thrive at Dark Horse and grateful to have him on the team.”

About Dark Horse CPAs

Dark Horse is the profession’s first and only democratized CPA firm that puts the power in the hands of their CPAs to build and scale a profitable book of business within a collaborative community of peers who are evolving their own practices, together. They’re able to do this due to a business model and philosophical approach that treats the Dark Horse CPA as the client so that they can serve their clients in a modern and strategic fashion.

Dark Horse seeks to disrupt the age-old, slow-moving accounting firm partnership model and replace it with a firm that sustains and feeds its CPAs, providing unparalleled opportunities for growth and shared ownership in order to compete against the biggest accounting firms and most sophisticated CPAs. This is why they adopted the Dark Horse moniker.

Dark Horse CPAs provide their clients with integrated tax, accounting and CFO services to small businesses and individuals across the U.S. The firm was founded to save small businesses (and their owners) from subpar accounting and tax services and subpar client experiences. These small businesses are Dark Horses among their larger and more well-known competition. Being a Dark Horse CPA means advocating for small businesses by bringing to them the tax strategies and accounting insights previously reserved for big business. To learn more, visit Darkhorse.cpa.
