David Gross, T.I., Charlamagne Tha God, and Presidential Candidate Cory Booker Bring Nipsey Hussle's Economic Empowerment Plan to Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON, May 30, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Coalition members of inner city-focused think tank Our Opportunity visited Capitol Hill to discuss Opportunity Zones, a program created by the 2017 tax bill to incentivize investment in low income communities. Co-founded by real estate and private equity investor David Gross and the late musician and entrepreneur Nipsey Hussle, the mission of Our Opportunity is to facilitate transformative investments that directly impact low income communities. Gross, along with entrepreneur and entertainer T.I., radio host Charlemagne Tha God, and L.A. City Councilman Marqueece Harris Dawson also used their time with Congress to honor Hussle's legacy and body of work in community reinvestment and economic empowerment.

The group traveled to DC to participate in a luncheon for minority investors hosted by Senator Tim Scott, one of the primary architects of the Opportunity Zone legislation. Throughout the day, the group also met with the Congressional Black Caucus and had targeted meetings with a number of Congressional leaders.

Prior to the meeting on Capitol Hill, coalition members, announced the launch of Our Opportunity while headlining the inaugural Forbes Opportunity Zones Summit in Newark, N.J. Gross previewed the forthcoming Our Opportunity documentary, chronicling the acquisition and planned redevelopment of the Slauson Plaza, home to the Marathon Store, in the Hyde Park neighborhood of South Central, Los Angeles.

Gross and Hussle first partnered to launch Vector90, an inner city co-working space and business incubator, in the Crenshaw District - with plans to replicate the concept in inner cities throughout the country. Our Opportunity was an expansion of that vision, as they viewed the legislation as a catalytic investment tool which could help scale their vision more broadly and more quickly.

During the week-long tour, Hussle's mission to bring opportunities and resources to underserved communities was the topic of every discussion and even Congress leaders acknowledged the lasting impact Hussle left around the world.
