AsA Lateef marks his debut in the literary limelight with the release of “Event in the Marshes And Other Stories” (published by AuthorHouse UK), a collection of short tales that highlights several characters on journeys of self-discovery where they learn that life is full of unexpected hurdles that often lead to the greatest lessons.
The book includes five short stories — each is unique in its plot and setting but all show core deep psychological and emotional struggle that are sometimes accompanied by physical challenge. Behind each plot is a central thesis or core concept cocooned in a tapestry of literary imagination and painted verbal pictures that, at times, reveal the test of extreme conditions and acute internal conflict as a result of the opposition between the harsh realities of the world and human ideals, dreams and aspirations. The stories show that this causes psychologic and emotional turmoil, which storm the protagonist’s own self.
The main characters in the five stories cover different ages and both genders. Their importance comes from their representation of different facets, attitudes and behaviors of human personality. Their struggle is painful, sometimes tragic, but invariably hold constructive humanitarian message.
“It is a book about real life and fundamental feelings and sufferings that are universal both spatially and temporally,” the author points out. “It affords, embedded in literary style, some fundamental aspects of human psychology, thinking, imagination and behavior. The stories also deal with conflicts that storm human being when facing extreme tests and extreme experiences. It also reveal some habits and living styles in remote exotic environments that would attract the attention of readers in other geographical settings of the world.”
The publication of “Event in the Marshes And Other Stories” aims to help readers understand and feel that humanitarian sufferings should unify all, irrespective of the confining ethnicity, ideology or culture.
