The ninth annual Open Architecture Summit, taking place October 18, 2016 at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C., will emphasize how open architecture requirements can help the Defense Department keep pace with commercial technology. Enshrined in the FY17 National Defense Authorization Act is greater reliance on modular, open systems that can rapidly upgraded as new technologies and capabilities emerge. Now Congress and DoD weapons buyers must find ways to enshrine open architecture as a requirement for certain acquisition programs.

In 2016, open architecture is no longer an ethereal concept; there are now real-life case studies on how open architecture has benefitted the defense industry and established baseline capabilities that can be rapidly refreshed. The 2016 agenda will include:
