Valuable Resource Helps Prepare the Workforce of Tomorrow
FLUSHING, N.Y., April 26, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Vaughn College, a partner school for Delta TechOps, received an engine donation in March to assist students studying to become aviation maintenance technicians (AMTs) with their training. Through Delta TechOps' TechU AMT career pathway program, Delta's partnership with Vaughn College plays a vital role in meeting the demand for certified AMTs in the metropolitan region as well as across the nation.
The donated engine is a JT8D, an engine that is considered highly durable and reliable having completed more than 673 million dependable flying hours since entering service. Today, there are 2,400 engines in use around the world.
"Delta TechOps' partnership with Vaughn College plays a critical role in meeting workforce demands, with Vaughn graduates representing over one-third of TechOps employees in the tri-state area," said Delta TechOps Director of Aircraft Line Maintenance Salvatore Giaimo. "As a former College of Aeronautics and Technology student myself, I have seen firsthand how Delta's continued support of TechU at Vaughn College supports the Queens community by paving the way for greater access to high-quality jobs. We are proud to provide this engine donation which will enhance learning through hands-on experience with a modern functional engine."
"We value our partnership with Delta TechOps and are grateful for the support our students receive through the career pathway program," said Vaughn College President Dr. Sharon B. DeVivo. "Delta's engine donation reinforces Vaughn's commitment to provide students with an education that leads to futureproof careers and a lifetime of opportunity."
In May 2022, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released a new rule designed to modernize the FAA Aviation Technician School Curriculum Requirements. The new rule allows institutions to provide students with curriculum that aligns with current industry standards.
