DevFestDC: One of the Largest Google Developer Conferences in the World
Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 09, 2015 -- From September to November, Google sponsors events for Google Developers all over the world. The local event DevFestDC is now celebrating its fourth year and will take place Friday, September 11th and Saturday, September 12th. The conference is selling out with only 50 tickets remaining. It is an intimate event with fewer than 400 participants.
“Google’s largest developer event is Google I/O. Other than that, DevFestDC has the most Google speakers because Googlers are excited by the developer community engagement in DC,” says Chidambaram.
DevFestDC is part of Google Developer Groups - DC and the Organizers Chida Chidambaram and Antonio Zugaldia have been involved in DevFestDC events since the beginning. Antonio says the organizers received feedback from participants that they would like the event to take place on the weekend. So this year, they will have half the event on a weekday and half on a weekend.
“On Friday, the focus is more on larger, enterprise topics,” he says. “This includes Google Cloud and big data. On Saturday, we shift towards start-ups and mobile.”
DevFestDC will be kicked off by CIO and SVP of Technology Operations, AOL with the keynote from Mike Brown, CTO of comScore. The first day focuses on Enterprise, Cloud and DevOps Sessions and Code Labs.
Saturday starts with a keynote by Katy Kasmai from Google. Her theme is “moonshot ideas,” or projects that seem unimaginable with current offerings. The goal is to inspire Google Developers to tackle those ideas even if they seem unrealistic now.
The workshop format is short: 40-50 minute sessions that are highly technical. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences at a hands-on level. There are also code labs to learn new skills for developers of all levels of experience.
“It’s great if you have a product idea shooting for moon,” says Chida. “Bring it on and see how Katy’s session helps to build that idea. ”
The prior year attendees love the energy created at DevFestDC. With a price of only $15 for the two-day event, the organizers’ goal is to build a stronger local developer community. Students can attend at a discounted price of $8.
“Once they know there are better tools than what they use every day, that’s when they become experts because now they can build better apps and ideas faster,” Antonio says.
Participants from many user groups and Meetups help organize the event. Organizers from Google Developer groups in Minneapolis, New York and Baltimore are traveling to the DC event to present with other speakers. Top sponsors include Google, AOL (providing the space for free), Capital One and Deloitte Digital. Community and media sponsors include Modev and Aveya Creative.
