STERLING, Va., Sept. 19, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- DHL eCommerce Solutions and DHL Global Forwarding, divisions of the world's leading logistics company, Deutsche Post DHL Group, joined the 2019 Dulles Day Festival and Plane Pull, raising more than $7,400 (among the top four teams raising money) for Special Olympics Virginia and its programs for local athletes.
On Saturday, September 14, at the Washington Dulles International Airport, a team of employees from DHL eCommerce Solutions, DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Same Day joined forces with local businesses and civic groups to pull over 127,550 pounds across the tarmac. The team that pulled the aircraft 12 feet in the shortest time won.
"This was a fun way for DHL to support a local cause that is impacting the lives of many children and adults with intellectual disabilities by offering them the opportunity to develop physically and be active in their community," said Lee Spratt, CEO for DHL eCommerce Solutions, Americas. "DHL is committed year-round to volunteering time and resources to make an impact in the communities in which it operates."
The three teams taking home the top honors for the plane pull were:
- First: Nextpoint Group (5.73 seconds)
- Second: TMG Construction
- Third: Booz Allen Hamilton
- Seventh: DHL Flyers (6.56 seconds)
"We are extremely happy to have exceeded our fundraising goal, and are proud to support Special Olympics and their dedicated athletes," said David Goldberg, CEO for DHL Global Forwarding, US. "This past weekend, we had some great teams flex their muscles for our local athletes, and you could feel the pride and excitement for such an important cause."
The Plane Pull was part of the Deutsche Post DHL Global Volunteer Day activities, which encourages employees to support their local communities during the month of September and throughout the year. Each team had to raise a minimum of $2,500 to participate and all proceeds help provide year-round sports programs, competitions, health services and community building programs for more than 27,000 athletes in Virginia with and without intellectual disabilities at no cost to the athletes or their families.
