DiabetesSisters Announces 2015 Leadership Institute for April 24-26, 2015
Durham, NC (PRWEB) February 27, 2015 -- DiabetesSisters, a national 501c3 nonprofit organization devoted to addressing the unique challenges faced by women with diabetes, is proud to announce the first-ever DiabetesSisters’ Leadership Institute. The Institute, which aims to develop the skills of 24 carefully selected organization leaders nationwide, is scheduled for the weekend of April 24-26th in Raleigh, NC. After an application process, a rigorous selection of participants was made based on the applicant’s demonstrated passion for improving the lives of women with diabetes, their longevity and commitment to the organization and record of dependability, and growth of the PODS (Part of DiabetesSisters) Meetup Program in their local community.
The primary goal of the Leadership Institute is to enhance DiabetesSisters’ programming by developing the leadership capabilities and educational capacity of women that lead DiabetesSisters’ signature PODS Meetup Program. Program leaders utilize the signature support group model developed by DiabetesSisters to facilitate the monthly program. At each monthly meeting, members discuss issues related to living with diabetes, share real life experiences, and receive education about health and wellness. Each leader selected to attend the 2015 Leadership Institute is a current trained PODS Meetup leader in their local community. With over 52 PODS Meetup Leaders in 35 locations throughout the United States, the program has grown exponentially since 2010.
The 2015 Leadership Institute will include small group and roundtable discussions, as well as informational presentations aimed at increasing the facilitation, management, and administrative skills of PODS Meetup leaders. PODS Meetup leaders will also have opportunities to weigh in on the strategic direction of the organization and participate in interactive sessions on current hot topics in the field of diabetes.
Anna Norton, DiabetesSisters’ Operations Manager said, “The PODS Meetup Program is a cornerstone of the organization as it provides the opportunity for women to connect with and support one another. Each PODS Meetup Leader plays a critical role in the success of the program in her city, and DiabetesSisters is thrilled to provide further assistance and training for these dedicated members and the women they serve in their communities.”
DiabetesSisters’ 2015 Leadership Institute will be offered thanks to the generous sponsorship of The Helmsley Charitable Trust, Novo Nordisk and the Center for Hope of the Sierras.
