Session border controllers are key components in managing and securing high volumes of signaling and media calls in voice over IP (VoIP) and voice over LTE (VoLTE) networks. High volume call handling, extensive software-based transcoding, and resiliency during high-volume traffic and Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack scenarios are especially importance. Scalability and interoperability across physical, virtual, and cloud environments are also core SBC requirements in today's cloud-native era.
Dialogic engaged Miercom to test its BorderNet SBC implemented in public cloud, virtual, and bare metal environments for performance, functionality and security in simulated real-world network deployments. During testing, the BorderNet SBC proved to be "highly interoperable with multiple deployment environments and performed automatic scaling (elasticity) without interruption as it successfully managed and secured offered calls." The following points highlight some of the key findings of the Miercom report:
- Full-featured, high-scale "cloud-native" performance in Amazon (AWS) and Microsoft Azure public clouds, on VMware and KVM virtual platforms, and on bare metal, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) servers
- Greater than 100,000 concurrent calls on an HP DL380 COTS server
- Greater than 6,800 software transcoded calls from G.729 to G.711
- Secure and uninterrupted call handling during periods of intense call loading and DoS attacks.
