The Canadian Organic Standards (COS) are the set of industry standards used in the federal organic certification process and enforced by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Currently, cannabis producers are not permitted to use the official Canada Organic logo because logo usage is restricted to food products and cannabis products are regulated by Health Canada. However, cannabis producers may apply for a third-party written certification confirming that their growing processes comply with basic Canadian Organic Standards and display the written confirmation on their website.

The COS is reviewed and updated every five years by The Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) to ensure that the standard remains relevant and applicable. Part of this review process involves releasing a draft version to the public for their consultation and comments. The current draft is open to the public, and public comments will be accepted until September 30, 2019. Farmers, processors, members of the public, and others are invited to comment on the proposed amendments to the Standard.
