Dick Rose’s Provocative Novel Given New Marketing Push
HENDERSON, Nev. (PRWEB) February 05, 2016 -- Author Dick Rose had his share of experiences in Vietnam and in the Navy Public Affairs. However, he felt that there was a necessity to exorcize his demons brought about by these experiences which prompted him to write “Moveable Forts and Magazines- A Novel of Vietnam” (published by AuthorHouse).
This novel is about Fred Hetherington, an attack helicopter pilot, an Annapolis graduate and son of a navy admiral who has taken sanctuary with a peace activist group rather than return to his unit in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta. The admiral’s chief of staff attempts to cover up the incident, not even telling the admiral about it. Dan Levin, Senior Chief Journalist in the admirals Public Affairs Office fears he may have influenced Hetherington, but who also wants the truth to be told about the defection.
“This novel explores the sibling themes of universal conscience and responsibility,” Rose says. “Is it relevant today in Afghanistan and Iraq as it was in Vietnam. The same problems still exist in the military, the same doubts, the same tensions and the same lies.”
Steeped in Navy culture and seasoned with the unrest of the 60s, “Movable Forts and Magazines” raises philosophical questions about war and morality, patriotism and duty. Rose hopes that this provocative read will be highly appreciated by children of the 60s and those interested in learning more about those times.

About the Author
Dick Rose was born in Chicago and moved to California in 1947 to join the navy in 1951. During the Korean War, he served on a supply ship based in Japan. In 1953, he became a navy journalist and spent 18 years in public affairs offices on the staff of various admirals. He was married in 1955 to Barbara Feder. He was also the head of the newsroom of Armed Forces Radio Taiwan from 1956 to 1959. He also headed the newsroom of the Far East Network, Tokyo from 1965 to 1967, after which he was sent to Vietnam. He retired from the Navy in May, 1971. After earning his BA (1972) and MA (1975), he worked for the VA for eight and a half years and the IRS for 12 ½ years retiring from Civil Service in 1997. His family moved to Las Vegas in 2000. After the death of his wife in 2007, he and his daughter Debbi moved to Henderson that same year.
