Doctible Launches Project to Promote Price Transparency in Healthcare
(PRWEB) March 23, 2016 -- Doctible, a digital healthcare platform that addresses pain points for both doctors and patients, announced that it is launching a project called San Diego by the Numbers in April. The project will unearth prices for common medical treatments as well as key insights about medical specialties in San Diego. The goal is to create awareness about the existence of prices in healthcare and to diminish the barriers that prevent consumers from getting care in the US.
“The idea for this project came to me a few years back when I injured my knee” shared Doctible CEO Ajit Viswanathan. Viswanathan had to go to the hospital and later received a $1,300 bill for a MRI, despite having insurance. He wasn’t sure if he was being overcharged or not, so he started calling other hospitals and asking for MRI prices. After many phone calls, Viswanathan was able to find out that the same MRI could have cost him $450 if he had paid cash. “At that moment of frustration, I decided to start Doctible” confides Ajit Viswanathan. “Now, through Doctible, you get to see prices for various medical treatments for free. With San Diego by the Numbers, we want to spread that knowledge widely among healthcare consumers and doctors.”
Throughout April, Doctible will share its publicly available data on health care treatment prices for the 5 main areas of San Diego county. San Diego by the Numbers will include engaging statistics about the following medical specialities: primary care, eye care, dental care, skin care, women's health and mental health. The project will be socialized through infographics on Doctible’s blog (https://blog.doctible.com), Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/doctible) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/doctible). To encourage dialogue around price transparency in healthcare, Doctible will be using the hashtag #HealthSD on social media.
