LOS ANGELES, Dec. 18, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- SoCal Self Storage, an innovative self storage company in Southern California, is premiering the short documentary it developed about the iconic graphic designer Seymour Chwast, Push Pin Studios and the making of the Fudgsicle public art mural on the side of the McGee's location on Ventura Blvd.
Wanting to embrace the creative energy and innovative spirit of Southern California, SoCal Storage searched for something iconic and bright to paint on the side of its building. They landed on Seymour Chwast's 1960s Fudgesicle graphic and hired LA muralist Carlos Aguilar of El Sapo Studios to paint it. SoCal also commissioned LA filmmaker Mary Wigmore to document and film the process from start to finish. She created a beautiful 5-minute short film that debuted with a sneak peek during AFI Fest November 14-21 on InstagramTV. Today, the documentary is live on the brand's YouTube channel.
A master of historical styles and movements, 60's graphic designer Seymour Chwast is known for his diverse body of work and lasting influence on American visual culture. Chwast's playful, expressive approach charted a new design wave based on revivalism, bold color and illustration called "Push Pin Style," which was not a definable style so much as a spirit based on humor, play and surprise.
Chwast's sunny, rainbow hued Fudgesicle now beams over the San Fernando Valley from the side of the McGee's Closet location (the historical landmark building located at 15111 Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks).
The Geiler family opened its first self storage location in 1985 and has grown the business with its partners to eleven locations throughout Southern California. The women-founded and family-owned business is currently headed by Shelley Geiler, daughter of founder Joanne Geiler.
