Even though over 200 million people have seen our 12 lemons image in 2017, we dream of empowering 2.2 billion women, regardless of language, race or location, so they can know what to do to detect breast cancer better.
LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) October 30, 2018
U.S. based nonprofit, Worldwide Breast Cancer, has released Know Your Lemons, an innovative app educating users about breast health in a fun and engaging way.
Early breast cancer detection is considered an imperative public health strategy by the World Health Organization (WHO). Approximately 1 in 8 U.S. women (12.4%) will develop invasive breast cancer during the course of their lifetime. In 2015 alone, 570,000 women died from breast cancer globally.
A recent global survey by Avon Products, Inc. of 19,000 women found a lack of knowledge to be one of the main culprits behind these troubling statistics. Currently, only 2% of women can recognize the signs of breast cancer. And 42% of women are not confident in their ability to detect a change indicative of breast cancer.
Dr. Corrine Ellsworth Beaumont, Founder of Worldwide Breast Cancer, and Katherine Crawford-Gray, CEO, realized breast health education was key to increasing survival rates — by detecting signs of breast cancer sooner, women could receive treatment at the earliest possible stages of the disease when treatment is most effective.
In 2017, Worldwide Breast Cancer’s award-winning Know Your Lemons® breast health campaign was seen by over 200 million people worldwide. But Ellsworth Beaumont and Crawford-Gray knew that to optimize impact, they would have to make this educational material more widely accessible.
So they enlisted the help of Dogtown Media, a leading mobile app development company, to develop a mobile app. The end result is Know Your Lemons®, a versatile tool that expands on the original campaign with humorous video and audio guides to self-exams. The app also lets users book screening appointments with local FDA-certified centers, offer tips on how to prepare for different breast tests, and supplies recommended questions for their visit.
While only recently released on app stores, Know Your Lemons® has already garnered critical acclaim and over 1000 users in its first month and been featured on Upworthy. And while the original campaign reached over 200 million people, Beaumont and Crawford-Gray have much bigger plans for their new mobile app:
“Even though over 200 million people have seen our 12 lemons image in 2017, we dream of empowering 2.2 billion women, regardless of language, race or location, so they can know what to do to detect breast cancer better.”
