WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Sept. 25, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals (NADN) is pleased to present their annual Distinguished Neutral of the Year Award to California-based Doug Noll, in recognition of excellence in the practice of mediation and ADR training.
Now a nationally-renowned mediator, speaker and author, Doug was a commercial trial attorney for over 22 years before turning his thoughts towards the processes - and science - behind negotiated agreements and peacemaking. Since 1998, he has dedicated his career to a deeper understanding of dispute resolution and written and lectured extensively on the topic, including at the NADN's Advanced Training Retreats since 2010.
For his innovative work in the field, Doug has previously been recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators (IAM), as well as a founding member of NADN's California Chapter. In 2012, along with his colleague Laurel Kaufer, Doug was named California Attorney of the Year for their seminal pro-bono "Prison of Peace" project, which has since received widespread national acclaim, including grants from the AAA/ICDR Foundation. Doug was named as a 'Lawyer of the Year' in 2014 by Best Lawyers in America and received a Purpose Prize Fellowship from Encore.org that same year. Earlier this year, Doug was also awarded the 'Sid Lezak Award of Excellence' from the IAM.
Doug is the author of several books, his most recent being "De-Escalate: How to Calm an Angry Person in 90 Seconds or Less" (Simon & Schuster, 2017), which was the winner of a Book Excellence Award. His previous books include "Elusive Peace: How Modern Diplomatic Strategies Could Better Resolve World Conflicts" (Prometheus Books, 2011 - winner of the CPR Institute's International Peace & Justice Book Award); "Sex, Politics & Religion at the Office: The New Competitive Advantage" (Auberry Press 2006) with John Boogaert, and "Peacemaking: Practicing at the Intersection of Law and Human Conflict" (Cascadia 2002). Doug has also written many articles and lectured extensively on peacemaking, conflict resolution and mediation, and remains an adjunct professor at the Pepperdine Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution.
