Partnership Executive Director Kara Norman is pleased...with the business participation, “Our merchant and business participation in the program has been excellent. We appreciate the opportunity to use this grant funding to support our downtown businesses and the community overall.”
FREDERICK, Md. (PRWEB) February 13, 2023
Downtown Frederick Partnership’s Security Camera Grant Program, in coordination with the City of Frederick Police Department, is helping Downtown Frederick businesses defray the costs of purchasing security cameras to make downtown streets more secure for all residents and businesses.
Thirty-two downtown businesses are receiving grants that will result in a total of 142 new cameras. Eligible businesses are being awarded up to $500 to cover the cost of the cameras, with no financial match from the businesses required. At least one camera must provide a clear view of the primary commercial street in front of the business. The remainder of the cameras may be internally focused.
Sumner Crenshaw, owner of The Muse on N Market St is thrilled with her store’s receipt of the grant. “I am so thankful to Downtown Frederick Partnership for making this grant available to us! I know that my staff and my customers appreciate the added security, and I hope that the increased presence of security cameras downtown will help residents to feel safe as well!”
Businesses who receive a grant give permission for their cameras to be registered with the City of Frederick Police Department for at least two years (until January 31, 2025). Businesses also are agreeing that, if asked, they will share their footage with the City of Frederick Police Department. Registering cameras helps businesses and law enforcement address crime-related issues collaboratively. The footage will assist the Frederick City Police Criminal Investigation Division, patrol and other partner agencies as circumstances arise.
Partnership Executive Director Kara Norman is pleased with the number of businesses and cameras currently being installed. “Our merchant and business participation in the program has been excellent. We appreciate the opportunity to use this grant funding to support our downtown businesses and the community overall.”
The security camera grant was made possible through funds awarded to Downtown Frederick Partnership by the State of Maryland’s Community Safety Works program.
