ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., Oct. 8, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), the largest specialty organization representing dermatologic surgeons, is pleased to recognize Florida Skin Center and its Founder and Medical Director Aurora Badia, MD, DO, for the second consecutive year as the top national screener and top practice in its Choose Skin Health program. Dr. Badia and her team provided 2,355 free skin cancer screenings in the 2019-20 program year.
"It is an honor and privilege to receive recognition as Top Screener for the most skin checks," said Dr. Badia. "Our entire team is dedicated to sharing knowledge and information for the protection and detection of skin cancer. Providing free skin checks to our community is an actionable effort that is measured by more than just a number — early detection saves lives."
The year-round Choose Skin Health program operates in partnership with Neutrogena to encourage consumers to apply healthy, sun safe behaviors to their everyday lives. The program promotes daily sunscreen use and monthly self-exams and offers free skin cancer screenings by ASDS member dermatologists. To date, participating members have performed more than 38,000 free screenings since the program began 10 years ago, and this year's volunteers collectively provided over 3,500 screenings from Sept. 1, 2019 to Aug. 31, 2020. This number was lower than usual due to the COVID-19 pandemic forcing practices to temporarily close and limit in-person visits.
