Dr. Jeff Ferrin of Autonomous Solutions, Inc. to Speak at AUVSI XPONENTIAL 2019
Dr. Jeff Ferrin, Director of Research and Development at Autonomous Solutions, Inc. (ASI), will be speaking at AUVSI XPONENTIAL 2019 in Chicago on the topic of Fleet Management, Monitoring, and Control of Autonomous Ground Vehicles.
MENDON, Utah, April 26, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Dr.
Since the year 2000, ASI has been deploying autonomous vehicles for mining, agriculture, construction, and security. ASI has developed the Mobius® command and control software application to allow a single user to control and monitor a fleet of vehicles. Mobius uses artificial intelligence modules to automatically task vehicles, generate optimal paths, and monitor all vehicles for safe operating conditions. Using Mobius, autonomous vehicles can operate safely with manually-driven vehicles in a mixed-fleet environment. Many different markets are using Mobius to increase efficiency, improve productivity, and monitor and log data from each vehicle for analysis.
The session will be in room S404d on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 2:30 PM. Also visit ASI at booth 824.
Jeff Ferrin's doctoral work was in controls and vision-based guidance and navigation. He developed a method for a ground robot to autonomously navigate to a selected target point in a video image without GPS. The robot uses model predictive control to drive a path that maximizes the information gained about the target point. He is an inventor of the Guideline system (US Patents 8,116,921 & 8,275,491), which was developed for robotic convoys without GPS. He has developed control systems for a wide variety of vehicles ranging in size from a small human portable robot up to a large M929 5-ton military truck. Dr. Ferrin's work also includes control systems for unmanned agricultural applications including an autonomous tractor sprayer and autonomous transport of large row-crop tractors. Some of his work in controls has been published and presented at the IROS conference in 2011, AIAA Guidance, Navigation, and Control conference in 2012, and in the IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology (November 2014).
For over 18 years, ASI has been a leader in vehicle automation, working with world leaders such as Sharp, Case IH and New Holland Agriculture, Ford, FCA America, Toyota, Hyundai, Rio Tinto, Barrick Gold, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Dematic and more. ASI's vehicle automation kits are OEM agnostic and provide enhanced safety, increased efficiency, and improved accuracy over human operators. ASI has a strong software team and extensive experience automating vehicles of all shapes and sizes, with an emphasis on systems integration, obstacle detection and avoidance, tele-operation, and fully autonomous controls.
