Dr. Dobbins joins FACTOR as Director, Data Science
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (PRWEB) November 29, 2017 -- FACTOR, INC., a leader in solving challenging risk management problems, announced the addition of Dr. James Dobbins as Director, Data Science, to its growing team of specialized professionals.

Dr. Dobbins comes to FACTOR from the Ingram Barge Company, where he started the Business Intelligence and Analytics department in 2015 and served as a Data Scientist. Dr. Dobbins helped Ingram tackle big data problems and use data in unique and innovative ways to improve operational effectiveness, increase fuel efficiency, and reduce vessel maintenance costs. Prior to Ingram, he served as Director of the Vanderbilt Center for Transportation Research (VECTOR) and held an appointment as a Research Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Dobbins’ research focused on freight data analysis, network optimization, transportation safety, and data visualization.

Dr. Dobbins holds certifications from Tableau, Oracle, and Microsoft, including Microsoft Professional Program for Data Science. A graduate of the US Merchant Marine Academy, he holds a dual license of 3rd Assistant Engineer, oceans, unlimited horsepower and 3rd Mate, oceans, unlimited tonnage. He served 18 years as a commissioned officer in the US Naval Reserve. Dr. Dobbins earned his PhD and MS degrees in Civil Engineering from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.
