Dr. Neal Barnard, founder and president of Barnard Medical Center and Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, will be honored as The Plantrician Project’s 2019 Luminary Award winner during the 7th annual International Plant-Based Nutrition Healthcare Conference, set for Sept 22-25, in Oakland, Ca.

For over 30 years, Dr. Barnard has not only been an unwavering advocate of the power of plant-based nutrition to change the way physicians treat chronic illnesses, he has also selflessly and compassionately pioneered significant improvements in the effectiveness of medical education and research.

Neal Barnard, MD, FACC, has been chosen as the recipient of the 2019 Luminary Award, in recognition of his invaluable scientific contribution through his prolific publication of thoughtful research; his pioneering work in public policy that has shaped numerous national initiatives and key legislative decisions; his selfless leadership and compassionate service; as well as his creative development of practical resources that have transformed millions of lives around the world.

Dr. Barnard will be presented with The Plantrician Project’s 2019 Luminary Award on the evening of September 24, 2019, during the 7th annual International Plant-Based Nutrition Healthcare Conference. Following the award presentation, Dr. Barnard will address the nearly 1000 physicians and healthcare practitioners attending the conference on the topic “What Years of Experience Teach Us about the Power of Plants for Human Health.”

As the 6th Luminary Award recipient, Dr. Barnard will join an impressive roster of colleagues whom have previously been honored with this prestigious award: T. Colin Campbell, PhD, Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr., MD, Dean Ornish, MD, Michael Klaper, MD and Hans Diehl, MD. The Plantrician Project’s Luminary Award was established in 2014.

The CME-accredited International Plant Based Nutrition Healthcare Conference will be held September 22-25, 2019 at the Marriott Oakland City Center in Oakland, CA. It will showcase the leading experts in the field of clinical nutrition—using food as medicine—for the prevention, treatment and reversal of chronic, degenerative disease. Members of this year’s conference faculty include Drs. Dean Ornish, Caldwell Esselstyn, T. Colin Campbell, Michael Greger and Joel Fuhrman.
