Dr. Oz Show Discusses Long-term Side Effects of LASIK
Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) November 12, 2013 -- A recent episode of the Dr. Oz Show, which aired on October 3rd, 2013, featured an investigative report about the potential life-long side effects of LASIK eye surgery.

LASIK eye surgery works by cutting a flap of the top layer of the cornea and then using a laser to reshape the exposed cornea. Complications can occur when the flap of the cornea is cut too thick, too thin or too far into the cornea. However, even if this cut is perfect, when the flap is put back down it doesn’t necessarily heal perfectly. Years later it can become dislodged and trigger negative side effects.
Dr. Julius Shulman, an ophthalmologist who advocates the safe us of LASIK eye surgery, argues that when the surgery is done in the right patients with the right, experienced doctor then it can be a very safe and helpful surgery. He disputes the FDA claim that 20% of patients suffer long term side effects from the surgery and asserts that the complication rate is less than 1%. He reiterates that reputable doctors alert patients of the risks and the need to keep using glasses for certain situations.
Dr. Irwin Azman provides treatment for people who underwent LASIK surgery but are now experiencing post-surgical complications.
