“Dressage for Jumping” Clinic featuring U.S. Olympian Laura Graves and Kama Godek LLC’s Team Kama a Success
ALDIE, Va. (PRWEB) August 15, 2018 -- On Tuesday, August 14, Team Kama welcomed U.S. Olympic Team Bronze Medalist Laura Graves to their training barn at Ohana Equestrian Preserve for a special clinic as grand prize for winning the 2017 Washington International Horse Show Barn Night Video Contest.
Sponsored by Barn Manager, Ms. Graves provided one-on-one flatwork instruction for nine riders of Team Kama (Piper Tyrrell, Erin Gilmore, Nicole Butchko, Kama Godek, Maya Aryal, Casey Osborn, Stefanie Obenhaupt, Abby Grabowski, Stefan Parker). Ms. Graves explained, “It’s really interesting to see that whether you’re jumpers or eventers or just dressage people, everyone is struggling with all of the the same things: getting the horses in front of the leg and getting the horses straight and the main reason I find that holds people back is because we’re so afraid of mistakes…”
Kama Godek, professional show jumper and lead trainer of Team Kama said, “This was such a great opportunity and we can’t thank Laura, Barn Manager, and WIHS enough for making this clinic possible. It is always great to learn from other trainers and being able to train across disciplines, in this case dressage for our jumpers, has shown me and my riders how much we all have to learn from each other.”
The clinic was live-streamed via USEF Network and can be watched on demand via https://www.usef.org/network/coverage/2018WIHSBarnNightClinic/. The clinic open to auditors free of charge and was listed online at Event Clinics, about 150 auditors attended. Members of the WIHS Junior Committee volunteered their time to help manage the event. Kama’s young riders, lead by barn manager Laurie Pitts, worked hard to prepare the barn and the team’s horses for the clinic. Kama couldn’t be more proud and says, “This really was a TEAM effort.”
