Drop the Pumpkin Spice Latte Until You’ve Completed This One Travel Task
AUSTIN, Texas (PRWEB) August 28, 2018 -- Data from vacation home rental site HomeAway® reveal why people who insist on drinking PSLs while it’s still summer-hot should start winter ski planning at the same time. Call it the pumpkin spice rule of travel: Book winter ski trips while sipping that first famous latte in order to beat the avalanche of ski-trip planners who rush ski home rental sites like HomeAway.com and VRBO.com in September.
“Getting frozen out of that perfect ski house is just too common, so we’re seizing on this record-early PSL release to inspire winter-on-the-tongue latte fans to complete ski vacation planning,” said Melanie Fish, HomeAway’s travel expert. “Historical data show that it’s all downhill from here, when the masses start competing for the limited number of ski-in, ski-out houses and places that are the right size, right price and in the right location for their winter trip.”
- Early birds get the ... A-frames. Historically, half of ski home rentals for the whole season booked on HomeAway are snapped up by the end of November, and 70 percent of availability is gone by the end of January.
- The bigger they come, the faster they book. Larger homes book at the briskest pace early on; 50 percent of homes with four or more bedrooms reserve by mid-October.
- Ski-in, ski-out: slim pickings. Hard-core skiers and snowboarders seeking to stretch their slope time have a “black-diamond” challenge, with only 10 percent of ski destination inventory billed as ski-in, ski-out.
The pumpkin spice travel rule emerged in 2017, when the ever-earlier Starbucks PSL release date coincided with spikes in ski trip vacation home bookings on HomeAway.com. A data check showed that 25 percent of ski properties in HomeAway’s most popular mountain destinations are already booked for the 2018–19 season.
