DrugNews Update: More Women Claiming Perforation Injuries From Mirena IUD
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 23, 2013 -- The birth control safety advocates at DrugNews.net are advising women using the Mirena IUD of updated information on the site. Recent federal court records show the number of lawsuits filed by women using the device alleging perforation injuries has nearly doubled in a few months*.
DrugNews was created to provide consumers using popular prescription devices with the latest safety alerts, recalls, studies and legal news in an effort to improve safety. Visitors can determine if others are experiencing similar side effects and decide if they need legal advice.
The resource center contains warnings from health experts about the risk of perforation from IUDs such as Mirena. The FDA has advised that the implantation of these IUDs can result in perforation of reproductive organs**.
The Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons also published a study warning patients that Mirena IUDs can become dislodged and perforate the uterine wall after they are implanted***. The FDA has already received 70,072 reports of Mirena side effects, with as many as 6,000 involving device dislocation or uterus perforation****.
Due to the number of patients filing a Mirena lawsuit, federal cases have been consolidated to a special multi-district litigation court in New York (In Re: Mirena IUD Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2434, Southern District New York).
Now, DrugNews has learned that the latest report from the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation shows the number of cases has nearly doubled from 53 on May 15th to 105 on July 10*.
Anyone who suffered perforation or required surgery while using a Mirena IUD is urged to speak with a lawyer about their legal options. However, DrugNews only recommends lawyers who are already handling Mirena lawsuits.
