"We’re tremendously proud of this noted achievement.” said Greg Westbrook, Delrin unit manager, DuPont Washington Works
WILMINGTON, Del. (PRWEB) June 18, 2020
DuPont’s Washington Works production facility was recently awarded the prestigious Responsible Care® Energy Efficiency award from the American Chemistry Council (ACC). The Council presented 38 awards, 10 of which were acknowledged as projects of “Exceptional Merit.” DuPont received three awards with the Washington Works project distinguished among the recipients of an “Exceptional Merit” award.
“Operators, engineers, and leaders in our DuPont™ Delrin® production unit worked as a team to maximize our operating efficiency with changing market demand that resulted in a six percent improvement in energy efficiency,” said Greg Westbrook, Delrin unit manager, DuPont Washington Works. “This reduced our unit’s carbon footprint by 8,200 tons of CO2 in 2019 which is the equivalent of removing 1,800 cars from the road for one year. We’re tremendously proud of this noted achievement.”
Energy efficiency gains were achieved by:
- Shifting load to achieve high-equipment efficiency
- Adjusting utility supply (heating and cooling) to equipment demand
- Scoping production and maintenance plans based on cost effectiveness
DuPont™ Delrin® is a tough, lightweight, and durable acetal polymer used in applications across multiple markets including transportation, materials handling, health care, and others.
The Responsible Care® Energy Efficiency Awards program is among ACC’s many initiatives to improve energy efficiency. Member companies are required to consider operational energy efficiency as well as waste minimization, reuse and recycling when developing environmental, health, safety, and security plans. ACC member companies nominate specific projects for recognition each year under the award program.
