eQuorum Releases Digital Signatures with Release of ImageSite® 10.3
New Capability Provides Assurance of Signer Identity and Content Integrity
ATLANTA, Sept. 16, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- eQuorum Corporation announces the availability of Digital Signature, a new feature in the newest release of ImageSite and Engine-Box.com, that lets authorized users digitally sign documents or markups to ensure authenticity and content and demonstrate approvals. A digital signature on a document or markup stored in the ImageSite or Engine-Box.com repository is an assurance to other system users that the document or its content has not changed since it was signed.
A digital signature is an encrypted code that is attached to a computer-generated drawing or document that uniquely identifies and confirms the signer. Unlike a written signature, it is difficult to forge a digital signature. The ImageSite or Engine-Box.com server also places a time and date stamp as well as any comments along with the digital signature. Using this server-based time and date stamp overcomes one of the security flaws found in client-based digital signature solutions. Those software applications don't prevent someone from changing the time and date on a local computer, thereby leaving the integrity of the digital signature in question.
"Compared to paper documents, computer-generated documents are more susceptible to modification that is harder to detect," comments Scott Brandt, President and CEO at eQuorum. "Using the system's Digital Signature functionality provides another layer of assurance that is essential in today's highly collaborative and security conscious business environment. It is also a method of embedding formal approvals and certifications directly to the drawing or document."
Brandt goes on to explain that while using Digital Signatures is quick and simple, the underlying technology is extremely sophisticated. "In addition to ImageSite's and Engine-Box.com's proprietary technology, we use Microsoft's CryptoAPI infrastructure for public and private encryption keys. Together, this technology provides three levels of assurance. First, it validates the signer's identity. Next, the user can see that the document has not changed, either intentionally or accidentally, since it was signed. Finally, the Digital Signature provides the assurance of a valid, authentic signature."
ImageSite and Engine-Box.com use an extremely simple, yet highly secure document distribution strategy in which the user e-mails a message with a URL to the desired documents stored in the repository. This method not only keeps all system password security models in place, but the document never leaves the system repository.
ImageSite's Digital Signature functionality also offers these features:
- Manages signing passwords for users with signing privileges within a project
- Enables authorized signers to sign one or multiple documents as well as markups, per page
- Allows multiple signers on a single document or markup
- Includes date and time stamp, as well as any comments with each digital signature
- Uses a combination of advanced technologies, including encryption and server-based time stamps, to support the legal concept of nonrepudiation. Nonrepudiation is the ability to ensure that a signer cannot deny the authenticity of their signature or the act of signing.
ImageSite and Engine-Box.com lets users anywhere in the world store, retrieve, review, markup, collaborate with, and print a broad range of technical documents throughout the lifecycle of any project or product. ImageSite and Engine-Box.com are Java-less HTML5 applications that have the look and feel of a "thick client" software product without the need to download client software. The authorized user needs only a standard Web browser to access drawings in the system's repository.
ImageSite and Engine-Box.com with Digital Signature are available directly from eQuorum, or through authorized partners. Free trials of Engine-Box.com (eQuorum's Cloud-based workflow and document management software) are available at https://eQuorum.com and https://engine-box.com.
