Eargo, the health tech company that’s destigmatizing hearing loss through consumer-driven innovation, was named an honoree by Fast Company in its annual Innovation by Design Awards for 2018 in the Health category for its Eargo Plus hearing aid.
Innovation by Design is the only competition to honor creative work at the intersection of design, business, and innovation.
The awards, which can be found in the October 2018 issue of Fast Company, on stands September 18, recognize people, teams, and companies solving problems through design. Fast Company is honoring an influential and diverse group of 398 leaders in fashion, architecture, graphic design and data visualization, social good, user experience, and more.
“The average person with hearing loss waits seven years before seeking help, primarily due to the social stigmas invoked by the dated design of traditional, behind-the-ear hearing aids, which are fully visible to the outside world,” said Christian Gormsen, CEO of Eargo. “We designed the Eargo Plus to fit inside the user’s ear so that they are completely invisible to the world around them, which in turn makes our customers feel empowered to wear Eargos and take control of their hearing health. This transformative design was achieved through our patented Flexi Fibers, which suspend in the ear canal to provide a more open, natural sound experience, as well as all-day comfort and breathability that fits a wide range of ear canal sizes.”
Designed in partnership with Ammunition Group, the design masterminds behind Beats by Dre headphones and Square, Eargo Plus’s modern take on hearing aid design was profiled in a Fast Company feature in 2017.
