Los Angeles-based Legal Defenders comments on a recent article that the consequences of causing an accident could be life-changing, but remaining patient and attentive at the wheel can keep motorists safe.

The personal injury law firm represents clients throughout California.

A December 21 article on ABC7 Los Angeles reports on a multivehicle collision that occurred early that morning after a big rig truck overturned on the 5 Freeway in Castaic, California. The article notes that there were no reports of serious injuries but at least three vehicles suffered severe damage, including an SUV that drove almost completely through the big rig’s trailer. Los Angeles-based Legal Defenders at the Law Offices of Burg and Brock says that it’s fortunate that no one was seriously hurt in the accident, but the event highlights the need for drivers to exhibit extra caution when driving in early morning hours.

Legal Defenders notes that car accidents on freeways are common during commuter hours, particularly on the freeways in and around Los Angeles. Drivers should of course always be vigilant any time they take to the roads, but frustration from heavy traffic can sometimes cause agitated drivers to make careless mistakes. The law firm says that while weaving in and out of traffic or speeding might seem harmless, the few minutes saved are hardly worth the risk of injury or worse to yourself or another motorist on the road.

The firm says that drivers who are found to be at fault for a collision, particularly a serious one, may be liable for much more than vehicle repairs and medical bills. Lost wages, trauma therapy, and property damages are only a handful of additional costs that the liable party is held accountable for. Legal Defenders adds that the emotional cost of harming or killing another person on the road can be much higher.

Legal Defenders says drivers should do their very best to remain calm and patient any time they sit behind the wheel. A morning or afternoon commute can be a great time to catch up on a favorite podcast or audiobook just as long as drivers don’t get distracted. The firm says the best way to ensure that there’s no need to rush anywhere is to budget extra time in their commute for traffic or delays. That way, Legal Defenders says drivers can navigate the roads safely without added stress.
