EcoPlum Joins 365 Companies Urging President-elect and US Congress to Support Paris Climate Agreement and Build a Low-carbon Economy
New York, New York (PRWEB) November 16, 2016 -- Today, EcoPlum, a sustainable promotional products and e-commerce company, joins a coalition of 365 companies in a written statement urging President Obama, President-elect Trump, and members of the US Congress address climate change through implementation of the historic Paris Climate Agreement. This agreement, negotiated by 195 countries, went into effect on November 4, 2016, with ratification by 110 countries, including the United States.
The Paris Agreement is the first-ever global agreement on climate change, negotiated over nine years within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The deal is legally binding, requiring action by all participating countries to lower greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the global impact of climate change. As the second biggest producer of greenhouse gases worldwide, US participation is critical to reaching the deal’s overall goal limiting global temperature rise below 2 degrees Celsius.
The statement delivered today in writing, and at a press conference, addresses President Obama, President-elect Trump, members of the US Congress, and global leaders in Marrakech this week, who are participating in COP22, the United Nation’s 22nd annual climate change summit. It calls on elected US leaders to 1) support strongly a continuation of low-carbon policies; 2) investment in an energy-efficient, low-carbon economy at home and abroad; and 3) continued US participation in the Paris Agreement it ratified. As Gia Machlin, Founder and CEO EcoPlum, asserts, “EcoPlum wants the United States to continue its leadership on climate action and honor the commitment made by over 100 nations when it signed the Paris Agreement. We have much more to gain by investing and building a clean energy future, in goodwill and collaboration with other countries.”
In signing the submitted statement, EcoPlum joins major businesses supporting the Agreement, including: Acer, Annie’s, Aveda, Ben & Jerry’s, Burton Snowboards, CA Technologies, Clif Bar & Company, EILEEN FISHER, Gap, HP, Hilton, IKEA North America, Intel, Interface, K2 Sports, L’Oreal USA, Levi Strauss & Co., NIKE, Patagonia, Seventh Generation, Starbucks, The North Face, Tiffany & Co., Unilever, Vans, Virgin, and many, many others.
