INDIANAPOLIS, IN (PRWEB) July 14, 2017 -- eimagine was recently awarded winner of the Indy Civic Hack inspired by Code for America’s National Day of Civic Hacking and presented by TechPoint. This year’s challenges included how to involve the community using an app designed to inspire, innovate, and invest in Indiana’s booming tech infrastructure. Participants created and presented applications and projects to compete for prizes across different categories.
At the event hosted mid-June at the Launch Indianapolis location downtown, a collaborative work space for entrepreneurs, technical mentors presented code samples to kick start the hacking process. Experts from sponsors such as IUPUI and AT&T, along with the local community were onsite at the event to assist with the development of the application. Additionally, the Indiana Management and Performance Hub brought massive public data sets for participants to access. Computers and various forms of technological hardware were provided to use in building the application.
The eimagine team created JoinIndy, a mobile application to promote civic engagement through using existing City of Indianapolis resources. JoinIndy is a mobile and web responsive app that is focused on safety. It allows subscribers of the application to report debris, litter, graffiti, and other environmental issues and promotes usability by making it a game. Points can be earned for organizing or participating in an event to tackle the environmental issues.
The JoinIndy app was developed as an extension of RequestIndy, an app that allows Indianapolis citizens to request services from the government to administer repairs or report issues around safety regarding specific environmental hazards or concerns.
Matt Ray, Mobile Practice Lead at eimagine, states, ”We were thrilled to be a part of the Civic Hack this year and are so proud to have won the City of Indianapolis challenge. It took the efforts and diverse experiences of a team made of up a Senior Project Manager, two software developers, and myself to create an engaging and educational app. It is exciting to see the City of Indianapolis embrace technologies and allow a spotlight to be casted on the smaller companies paving their way in this community.”
