Swimming schools in nine states hosted events to raise awareness and teach kids water safety skills.

Emler Swim Schools in Texas, California, Massachusetts, Oregon, Wisconsin, Nevada, Virginia and Indiana held multiple events to raise water safety awareness. Additionally, the locations raised money to assist local drowning prevention organizations
"As we head into the summer months and more families begin to enjoy water sports and recreation," says Greg Laird, CEO of Emler Swim School. "Unfortunately, that also means the risks of water accidents and drowning increase too."
Drowning is the #1 cause of accidental deaths among children under the age of five, says Laird, with swimming pools being the most common site for drownings.
"Parents need to be diligent in watching their kids around the pool, or anywhere they may go swimming," says Laird. "It's also important for kids to know basic water safety skills."
Laird also says that formal swim lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88% for children ages 1-4 years old.
To help families learn about water safety, Emler swim schools are hosted 26 events across the United States throughout May.
Water Safety Month projects involved 37 Emler swim schools operating under its seven brand names in nine states across the United States. Schools such as Emler's SwimWest school in Madison, Wisconsin hosted free events open to the public. These events featured water safety stations, in-water swimming evaluations to determine children's swimming skills, as well as giveaways. Many schools also offered discounts for their Summer Daily Swim Camps.
Emler schools collected money to support local drowning prevention organizations. Over $4,500 in donations will be given to organizations including Texas Children's Hospital SPLASH program, the Miss Tristan Foundation, Colin's Hope, Cook Children's Hospital and the National Drowning Prevention Alliance.
Fourteen Emler schools also collected funds and lifejackets for charities at their respective locations.
Emler swim schools also shared water safety tips through their social media channels throughout May.
