BERKELEY, Calif., Jan. 31, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Enuma, the digital early education start-up, is entering the Indonesian market. Enuma released Sekolah Enuma, the Indonesian version of Enuma School, a mobile-based self-directed learning application for foundational literacy, English, and math.
Sekolah Enuma is designed for Indonesian children to learn foundational skills up to a 2nd grade level at school or at home, even if adults are not available to support their learning. The development involved over 60 Indonesian professionals, including educators, curriculum specialists, storytellers, illustrators, and actors. Taking into consideration the local IT infrastructure, the app works even without internet connection and can work on lower cost tablets and smartphones.
Enuma held the "Literacy for 10 Million Indonesian Children" launch event in Jakarta on January 26th with representatives of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (MoECRT) and literacy activists in attendance. At the event, Sekolah Enuma: Bahasa Indonesia, the literacy module of Sekolah Enuma, was officially launched as a free application. With the aspiration to become the go-to education app in Indonesia, Enuma recently established its subsidiary in Jakarta and aims to work closely with the MoECRT and other businesses to widely promote the free literacy app, including to low-income families.
"Sekolah Enuma: Bahasa Indonesia presents an opportunity to fill the gap for those children who have lost learning opportunities. Additionally, the app can help strengthen literacy activities nationally," explained PAUD Director at the MoECRT, Muhammad Hasbi.
"Since COVID-19 there has been a surge of interest in digital education. However, few apps provide age-appropriate learning experiences for young learners. Enuma School was created to help all children learn basic reading, writing, and math joyfully, and is the culmination of our team's years of experience," said Sooinn Lee, CEO of Enuma.
Enuma is also engaged in distributing the school version of Sekolah Enuma to rural and underserved areas in Indonesia throug the Inclusive Business Solution program of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). With a 5-year grant, Enuma plans to provide teacher training to educational institutions that purchase the school version of Sekolah Enuma, and improve basic education for underserved students. The HEAD Foundation, an early partner of Sekolah Enuma, is also supporting grants to organizations looking to implement Sekolah Enuma with more marginalized communities.
As the demand for digital education for children surge, the digital equity gap will widen. Enuma plans to establish a business model that is profitable and impactful in Indonesia, then expand to other Southeast Asian countries.
