ePreop Announces Launch of Upgraded AnesthesiaValet™ at ASA 2015
SEAL BEACH, Calif. (Sept. 30, 2015) (PRWEB) October 01, 2015 -- In light of the increased consolidation within the anesthesia provider market and the rapid healthcare industry transition from fee-for-service to value-based payment models, IT software developer ePreop will officially launch the upgraded AnesthesiaValet™ software suite in San Diego at ASA’s Anesthesiology 2015 meeting in October. The Time Is Now. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) plans to link up to 90 percent of Medicare payments to value- or quality-based reimbursement methods by 2018. The one clear thing groups can do to control some of this revenue is to successfully participate with a QCDR. While the number of groups signing on through QCDRs is significant coming into 2016, research has shown that only a small percentage of healthcare providers and affiliates are prepared to manage the capitation, bundled payments and quality-based payments that are already beginning to factor so heavily in reimbursement.
Those who remain unprepared for the transition will face great losses under the value-based payment models. Providers and finance departments must recognize that financial risk will no longer be placed on insurers but, rather, on providers.
The Challenge Is Multi-faceted. Physicians tend to struggle when it comes to getting data. In today’s market, anesthesia providers need this information to compete with other groups. Generating accurate documentation is also a challenge. Anesthesiologists must remain focused on preoperative risk and readiness while being sure they are providing anesthesia in a safe and efficient environment. In addition, clinical documentation is complex, continually evolving, and is not part of traditional training, all of which can lead to a dependency on surgeon documentation. This makes the transition to value-based payments even more difficult because it can lead to low-quality reporting, decreased reimbursement, and frustrated surgeons feeling “hassled” by coders.
