EveryDay Contacts Re-Thinks The Direct-To-Consumer Model With New Daily Disposable Contact Lens

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Nov. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- EveryDay Contacts has launched an Indiegogo campaign for a new daily disposable contact lens in collaboration with the eyecare community. They are the first contact lens brand to combine the direct-to-consumer features consumers have come to expect with a lens that is provided by the eye care professional.

Today, the contact lens market is trending toward abusive direct-to-consumer businesses that focus on price rather than what is best for the consumer. According to Lawrence Chavez, CEO of EveryDay Contacts, "As we explored how we could bring our new contact lens to market, we realized that the current direct to consumer models were ignoring the consumer's eye-health, so we developed a model that took the best of the direct-to-consumer elements and blended it with the eye care professional." As a result, EveryDay Contacts is focused on bringing the brand experience, competitive pricing, and online presence of the direct-to-consumer model but doing so by including the eye care professional in the value chain, allowing the consumer to make an educated decision on what product is right for them.

The future of eye care is changing and to thrive one has to adapt. Working with EveryDay Contacts gives the Eye Care Professional a new lens offering that respects the role of the practitioner but recognizes the changing behavior of the consumer.

There have been several direct-to-consumer contact lens companies that have entered the market in the past few years that operate without regard to doctor input. Dr. S. Barry Eiden, president and medical director of North Suburban Vision Consultants Ltd., states, "The future of eye care is changing and to thrive one has to adapt. Working with EveryDay Contacts gives the Eye Care Professional a new lens offering that respects the role of the practitioner but recognizes the changing behavior of the consumer. We must find new ways to engage the patient and EveryDay Contacts is one of those options."

Many in the eye care community, including Alan Glazier, O.D. have been trying to find alternatives to keeping the eye doctor involved. According to Dr. Glazier, "I had been looking for ways to 'disrupt the disruptors,' those company selling boxed lenses without involving a doctor, when I was approached by Mr. Chavez. I challenged him about his commitment to the doctor and asked him to commit in writing the promise that the company would never support a generic contact lens as substitution for a doctors' prescription and I received a written promise." Dr. Glazier added, "Patients like the convenience of online ordering, but it is not in the best interest of the health of the public to dispense medical devices without proper care and follow up by eye care professionals. The EveryDay Contacts' model keeps the doctor in the picture, and they have committed to running a business that is in the best interest of the health of our patients."

The new lens leverages a unique coating technology designed to enhance the performance of silicone hydrogel daily disposable lenses. Targeted to launch in Q3 2019, the lens will be available via a subscription service and will give the eye care practitioner a consumer-focused lens offering that is not currently available to them today.
