Excelsior College School of Health Sciences Launches Bachelor of Science in Public Health, Scholarship Program
(PRWEB) December 07, 2015 -- Excelsior College, a nonprofit, distance learning institution based in Albany, New York, today announced the launch of a Bachelor of Science in Public Health degree.
The BS in Public Health is a 120 credit degree program that will prepare Excelsior College students to pursue a variety of career pathways or graduate education in public health. Students will be exposed to the five core public health disciplines: behavioral health/health education, epidemiology, biostatistics, health services administration and environmental health. Future graduates will learn how to address health issues with diverse stakeholders and demonstrate critical thinking skills in health care delivery systems.
As one of the few nonprofit distance learning institutions with a national reach, the College seeks to meet the growing demand for educated public health labor and help the industry advance the three P’s of public health: preventing the spread of disease, protecting the health of populations, and promoting health through intervention.
In addition, Excelsior College will offer a $1,500 Bachelor's in Public Health Inaugural Scholarship to the first 20 students who enroll and register for a January 2016 course. The scholarship application period closes December 11, 2015.
“The urgency to have a culturally competent, well-trained health public health workforce is critical as the nation moves to not just reduce health disparities but eliminate them,” said Deborah L Sopczyk PhD, RN, dean of School of Health Sciences.
The School of Health Sciences, says Sopczyk, is committed to building a public health program rooted in promoting and protecting the health of populations and preparing students to enter the field of public health equipped with knowledge and skills to improve the health needs of communities worldwide.
