Consumers looking to save money on transportation costs can learn more about electric vehicles from EV drivers and other experts at NDEM events across the country. Attendees can get their questions answered about the daily driving experience, maintenance, incentives, and charging. Many events also offer test drives, giving people a chance to get behind the wheel and see why 94.3 percent of EV drivers intend to stay electric.
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- National Drive Electric Month (NDEM), an annual campaign to increase education and awareness about electric vehicles (EVs), starts this Friday, Sept. 11, and ends Sunday, Oct. 12. The events feature EV test drives, showcases, informative workshops, and other fun activities that highlight the benefits people enjoy when they switch to an electric vehicle.
"EVs offer people the opportunity to uncuff themselves from volatile gas prices," said Joel Levin, executive director of Plug In America, the country's leading EV nonprofit and one organization behind NDEM. "In a time when affordability is especially top of mind, EVs offer a glimmer of hope, providing fuel and maintenance savings."
EV drivers overwhelmingly find their vehicles cheaper to fuel, easier to maintain, and more fun to drive than gas vehicles, according to the industry's leading EV driver survey from Plug In America. Additionally, 97 percent feel safe driving their EV and 95 percent think their EV is reliable.
"EV adoption continues to climb based on what EVs have to offer," Levin said. "They offer a better experience all around."
Local organizers are hosting events across the United States, including multiple festivities in Hawaii and Alaska.
Here are some locations with events to pay attention to:
- Poolesville, Md. – Historically one of the largest NDEM events, this one on Sept. 19 is sure to wow attendees with an all-electric travel trailer and more than 40 EVs on display, including at least 20 different models.
- Enfield, N.C. – This rural town is getting the first EV showcase it's ever had on Sept. 19. After experiencing a multiday power outage, the organizer wants to prepare his community for future outages by sharing how EVs can help during outages and boost the community's resilience.
- Bemidji, Minn. – The local co-op is offering EV rides and drives on Oct. 1 and a chance for attendees to learn about charger rebates and off-peak rates for powering their EVs.
- Banning, Calif. – Test drives, entertainment, education, food, and community connection – this Oct. 3 event has it all. Visitors can meet experienced EV drivers, learn about incentives from local dealerships, and discover career opportunities in the emerging field of electric mobility.
- Scott City, Kan. – Free tacos are on the menu before Monday night football at Let's Taco 'Bout EVs, which is showcasing fleet EVs and answering questions from the curious on Oct. 12.
Plug In America, Electric Vehicle Association, Sierra Club, Drive Electric USA, and EVHybridNoire are the organizers behind National Drive Electric Month. The groups recruit individuals to host local events, which are then listed on DriveElectricMonth.org.
