Expert Hematologist and Oncologist, James Orsini, Jr., MD, Recognized with Top Doc Honor in New Jersey

As a board-certified hematologist and oncologist, Dr. Orsini diagnoses and treats solid tumors, blood cancers and blood-related disorders ranging from complicated anemia, platelet and white blood-cell disorders to more severe disorders such as solid tumors, leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma. He also has particular expertise in treating urological malignancies including prostate, bladder, testicular and kidney cancer.
Growing up, James always envisioned working alongside his father, James Orsini, Sr., MD, who is currently active chairman of the Board of Trustees at University Hospital (formerly UMDNJ), and Director of Oncological Services at RWJ-Barnabas Health at Clara Maass Medical Center. Dr. Orsini, Sr. continues in his private practice with a team of six oncologists at three locations.
In his youth, James often rounded alongside his father, working as a phlebotomist at Clara Maass Medical Center as he started to build a foundation and appreciation for a career in service. He understood through his father’s work that quality care for patients is delivered not only with great knowledge and compassion but also with the understanding that the needs of the patient should always come first.
Dr. Orsini, Jr. practices at Hackensack UMC Mountainside in Montclair, New Jersey along with his partner Dr. John Conti, currently the Director of Oncology Services at Hackensack-Meridian Health Mountainside. He also currently works with New Jersey Urology as the director of advanced prostate therapeutics. NJU is currently the largest urological group in the country.
Dr. Orsini, Jr. believes in a multidisciplinary approach to treating cancer patients through collaborating with surgical and radiation oncologists, and utilizes innovative pathological techniques such as next generation sequencing. He combines this approach with utilizing the knowledge of an excellent primary care team of physicians to achieve successful outcomes.
Dr. Orsini, Jr. presents his cases to a multidisciplinary tumor board working in conjunction with Hackensack Meridian Health Mountainside Medical Center, an affiliate of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He participates in a multitude of clinical trials and is currently the primary investigator on more than eight active trials.
