COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Feb. 3, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- James Rothrock, Retired Lieutenant Colonel U.S. Air Force, aims to raise thought-provoking questions about the authority, justification and consequences of NATO's decision to intervene militarily in Kosovo with his new book "Diplomacy at Gunpoint: Kosovo: The Illegal and Unnecessary War" (published by Archway Publishing).
In March 1999, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) launched a 78-day bombing campaign of the sovereign nation of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, a nation the size of Kentucky. Rothrock says the objective was to end the repression of the ethnic Albanian population in Kosovo, a province within Yugoslavia. "Diplomacy at Gunpoint" probes the many questions raised about the legality, morality, and necessity of external military forces intervening in a sovereign nation where human rights are being violated. The author pulls from first-hand reports of the conflict as it took place and includes direct quotations from key leaders who were involved in negotiations and decisions related to the conflict in Kosovo.
"Every alternative should be thoroughly explored before resorting to war. No nation should overlook the fact that the United Nations Security Council is the sole authority for authorizing the use of force in the settlement of disputes between nations," Rothrock says. "Member nations must insist that the United Nations exercise its authority and capability to intervene in a country where human rights are being violated."
