WADI MUSA, Jordan, June 8, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Petra Development & Tourism Region Authority ("Petra Authority") and TimeLooper, the market leader in providing immersive AR and VR historical journeys announce the launch of an immersive 3D augmented reality exploration of Petra. By downloading the Petra Xplore app users can walk through Petra at scale, taking in the landscape and most iconic sites within the Nabatean caravan city. At points of interest users experience life-size 3D models, 360° photos, and narrated voiceover. This incredibly powerful journey is intended to both facilitate self-directed access to the UNESCO heritage site while it is closed but also to provide tour guides a new visualization tool that they can utilize in delivering virtual tours or field trips to cultural enthusiasts and school groups.
"TimeLooper's Xplore platform is the perfect tool to facilitate access to Petra while our gates are closed. Xplore allows people to walk through the site, explore its world-famous facades and learn about the height of Nabatean civilization as if they were here in person. The majesty of Petra and the hospitality of the Jordanian people cannot be replicated virtually, but Xplore is as close as you can come," said Dr. Suleiman A. D. Farajat, the Chief Commissioner of the Petra Authority. "We appreciate TimeLooper providing our visitors this opportunity to travel back in time and learn about this ancient civilization."
Upon launching the application, the user will see a three-dimensional map of Petra that highlights its unique and beautiful topography. Walking through the digital environment, the user will be able to walk into and through the amphitheater, church complex, great temple, monastery, Qasr-al-Bint, royal tombs, and of course the iconic Treasury.
This experience, along with others that TimeLooper has collaborated with iconic sites around the world, is available to users at no cost via Petra's Xplore app, available immediately in the Apple App Store and coming soon on Google Play.
"We collaborated with Petra Authority and the Zamani projects to deploy a variety of materials that depict the Petra experience, including, 3D models and 360° images. Our goal was to deliver as realistic an on-site experience as possible to people using the experience at home," said Andrew Feinberg, Principal at TimeLooper. "We hope that in these difficult times people achieve a moment of escape, enrich themselves in Petra's content, and get inspired to visit in the future."
