Explore Portland’s Modern Architecture + Design in June
PORTLAND, Ore. (PRWEB) May 10, 2018 -- Some tour-goers search for inspiration for their next project; others hope to find an architect or home builder to work with; whatever the reasons may be, all tour-goers come to see a curated selection of Portland homes that embody the Pacific Northwest’s unique modern architecture and design aesthetic.
On Saturday, June 2nd, the Modern Architecture+ Design Society (MA+DS) returns to Portland for the 2018 Modern Home Tour. The annual event gives regional architects, designers, and home builders the opportunity to showcase their work to the community in which they work. In turn, the self-guided tour gives the community an opportunity to engage the minds behind the designs and ask questions as they explore some of Portland’s modern homes up close, inside and out.
“The Portland Modern Home Tour is one of the highlights of our annual Pacific Northwest series, and it’s one we always look forward to,” says MA+DS founder and president, James Leasure. “Portland has an amazing movement in modern residential architecture and design. It is truly inspiring and unique. Every year we are fortunate enough to showcase some incredible designs from some of the area’s leading architects and home builders.”
Local architecture expert Brian Libby, founder of portlandarchitecture.com, has carefully curated and selected the participating homes for the 7th annual Portland Modern Home Tour:
- A complete renovation by Templeton Built of a 1958 Lake Oswego ranch-style home into a mid-century inspired modern home
- A brand new modern home in Mt. Tabor by Raphael Design that exhibits the archetypal gable shape with an open floor plan inside
- A modern home conceived more similar to a loft space than a traditional single-family home, desinged by m.o.daby design and located in Roseway
- An historic gem from 1957 in the Raleigh Hills: one of only 24 “Alcoa Care-Free Homes” ever built, designed by Charles M Goodman, that utilizes aluminum as the main feature
- A complete update and modern transformation by Urban Housing Development of a 1981 Street of Dreams tour home in Lake Oswego
- A featured unit in the newly-built Yard building, designed by Skylab Architecture, located in downtown Portland
- A double-dose of modern at side-by-side homes designed by Waechter Architecture and built by Oregon Homeworks in the Beaumont-Wilshire neighborhood
The Architecture Club at Portland Community College is returning to work with the Modern Home Tour this year as the tour’s official beneficiary non-profit. Budding architecture and design students will help staff the event in return for a donation and the opportunity to use the tour as a fundraising vehicle. Additional proceeds will be added to develop a scholarship fund to help future architects and designers further their education.
Participating homes in the 7th annual Portland Modern Home Tour will open their doors for viewing from 11AM – 5PM on Saturday, June 2nd. All are invited to attend. Tickets to see all homes are $40 in advance online; $50 on the day of the tour.
