EyeGuide Releases Mobile Eye Tracking SDK to Bring Eye Tracking to Everyone
(PRWEB) September 01, 2015 -- EyeGuide today announced the world's most affordable mobile eye tracking software development kit. Over two years in the making, the SDK ushers in a new generation of wearable eye tracking development, with possibilities ranging from home automation to augmented reality applications.
"Previously, you had to build the hardware yourself, or pay tens of thousands of dollars for it," said Dr. Nathan Jahnke, CTO of EyeGuide. "There was also the problem of platform-specific requirements for developers. I'm pleased that we were able to tackle both those problems at once."
The EyeGuide mobile eye tracking platform, known as EG, consists of two high quality cameras, a lighting system, an accelerometer-gyroscope, and a speaker system, all mounted on a lightweight headset that resembles a pair of headphones. The headset's cameras are mounted on an adjustable arm, and the headset itself changes to fit any head size.
By piggybacking on the free, platform-independent software included with the SDK, a developer can identify what a user is looking at in their environment. They can then extract the object of interest and perform some action based on it. For example, in an automated home, looking at a light fixture could power it on. In addition, users can interact with a computer or tablet simply by looking at it, playing a computer game with their eyes, to take just one example.
"Although right now the accessibility applications are most obvious, eye tracking is expected to become more and more common as the wearables market expands," explained Dr. Brian Still, EyeGuide co-founder and chairman. "For example, Google had eye tracking on Glass, but they thought people weren't ready for it and pulled it at the last minute. Now developers can become familiar with eye tracking today thanks to our affordable SDK."
The EG SDK is available from EyeGuide's online store at https://eye.guide/buy/ starting today. The initial quantity is limited.
