GREAT NECK, N.Y. (PRWEB) May 10, 2018 -- Industry-leading credit consulting firm Information Clearinghouse, Inc. (ICI), through its F&D Reports and Creditntell divisions, has released its 2018 Retail Bellwether Report, which examines a select group of ‘Bellwether’ companies as a means to analyze broader trends across the retail industry. This august group of 30 retailers leads the charge for American retailing, accounting for almost $1.801 trillion in collective annual retail revenue and $168.75 billion in annual EBITDA. These retailers — including Walmart, Costco, CVS, Walgreens, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Dollar General, Kroger, Publix, Macy’s, Best Buy and Home Depot — don’t simply exist within a category, they define it in terms of size and performance.
The 2018 Retail Bellwether Report takes a close look at revenue growth, EBITDA margin, capital spending and credit ratings for this group, identifying underlying trends that are shaping the retail landscape. As per the report’s analysis, while certain players in the retail industry face headwinds from shifting consumer expectations, others are capitalizing with new customer-centric business models and investments in omnichannel to support a seamless experience between physical and virtual shopping. In terms of brick and mortar, while store closings continue to dominate the headlines, F&D Reports' / Creditntell's store activity tracking shows openings actually outpacing closings. Specifically, while the department store, electronics/office, specialty and apparel sectors have announced 814 net store closures, the remaining 9 of 13 monitored industries have announced 1,947 net store openings.
Commenting on the 2018 Retail Bellwether Report, ICI CEO Lawrence Sarf stated, “Brick-and-mortar retail is far from dead but instead is being redefined by the ever-changing purchasing behaviors of the consumer. As some companies fail to adapt to new technologies and better competition, many others are innovating and differentiating their strategies for growth. There are always two sides to every story, and our 2018 report takes a close look at the industry frontrunners that have been able to successfully navigate today’s evolving retail landscape.”
