Fall “Foodie” Appeal Grows In Door County, Wisconsin
DOOR COUNTY, Wisc. (PRWEB) September 12, 2018 -- While vibrant fall colors and harvest festivals have traditionally drawn visitors to Wisconsin’s Door County in September and October, the 70-mile peninsula now boasts another intriguing attraction: hard cider.
Since 2014, the number of hard cider producers nationally has doubled, mirroring the steady increase in consumption among young, upscale drinkers. Not surprisingly, the cider craze has also taken hold in Door County, where three cideries now produce more than a dozen unique cider varieties using locally grown apples, cherries, pears and other locally grown crops.
“Foodie” visitors looking to indulge in other local delicacies can get fresh apples, apple products and other seasonal produce at farmer’s markets and festivals across the county; taste wine at eight different locations along the Door County Wine Trail; sample smoked Lake Michigan whitefish or salmon; or enjoy one of the peninsula’s iconic outdoor fish boils. The county is also home to several artisan cheese makers, craft breweries and craft distilleries.
For cultural connoisseurs, there are more than 100 art galleries and studios, live music performances and award-winning professional theater productions. Door County’s five state parks, 11 lighthouses, stunning shoreline sights and miles of trails bring in hikers, bikers, photographers and outdoor aficionados of all ages. Door County Trolley tours allow visitors to relax and experience the exquisite colors and scenic vistas on a 75-minute tour of the county, while several boat tours offer a stunning perspective of fall foliage from the water.
