“Joshua Walker is a key thinker about the future of law and this timely and approachable book offers the reader a very good introduction to the field. I would encourage everyone to read this book!” – Daniel Martin Katz, Co-Founder, LexPredict

Legal publisher Fastcase today announced debut plans for its newly published book, On Legal AI, by Joshua Walker. The book is available for order in print as well as ePub and Mobi for Amazon Kindle through the Full Court Press bookstore at http://www.fastcase.com/store/fcp/on-legal-ai.

To celebrate the launch of On Legal AI, Fastcase will host a publication party on Monday, July 15th at its home office in Washington, DC coinciding with the American Association of Law Libraries 2019 conference. Guests will receive a complimentary book, hear remarks from the author, and can request a book signing during the event.

On Legal AI is perhaps the first fact-based attempt to map the territory between AI and the law. While grounding the conversation in hard theory, Joshua Walker takes the reader through a flurry of (interstitially entertaining) real-world examples to resolve on a single “recipe” for developing legal AI, and making AI “legal”. On Legal AI will aid readers in becoming far more productive and valuable to enterprise and government by specifically illustrating how to leverage practical legal automation, and how to avoid falling prey to its dangers. It seeks to marry the best mores and methods from law, computer science, and design—in time to catch the present wave of opportunity.

Author Joshua Walker has over 20 years of experience successfully deploying legal AI and analytics—much of it to resolve problems he encountered as a practicing IP attorney at big firms in Silicon Valley. A co-founder of CodeX, Walker later served as founding CEO and Chief Legal Architect of Lex Machina—a pioneering Stanford law and AI start up that continues to help experts and others understand and manage US litigation. Walker also served as General Counsel and project executive for a major aerospace lab focused on autonomous systems development, and, before law school, produced prosecution analytics for the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. He received his A.B. from Harvard College and his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.

“Bringing Joshua Walker’s book to the Full Court Press lineup of offerings is not only timely and relevant for those following Artificial Intelligence in the legal industry, but also coincides with several of the initiatives and products the Fastcase team is currently developing,” said Full Court Press Publisher Morgan Morrissette Wright. “There is so much happening with Fastcase’s AI Sandbox and Docket Alarm offerings that readers of On Legal AI, and followers of legal AI in general, will appreciate.”

“After 25 years in legal book publishing, I kept asking will there be anymore “namesake” books. Joshua Walker’s book is a big yes and will help encourage lawyers to become AI savvy, in much the same way Chisum on Patents helped generations of patent attorneys, or Mauet on Fundamentals of Trial Techniques became a must have handbook for litigators,” said Steve Errick, Fastcase COO. “We expect readers will be delighted by Joshua’s voice and guidance during this critical time period in computer-assisted practice.”
