FREDERICK, Md., Jan. 29, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Frederick Community College (FCC) Foundation, Inc. is seeking to raise money for the FCC Parents Lead program through the Unity Campaign.
The Unity Campaign is a "12 Days of Giving" project, sponsored annually by the United Way of Frederick County. As part of the campaign, individuals are asked to donate to local causes and programs like Parents Lead between March 10 and March 21, 2021.
"The FCC Foundation is grateful to be one of the 31 non-profit organizations chosen to participate in the Unity Campaign this year," said FCC President Elizabeth Burmaster. "FCC and the Parents Lead program are committed to helping our students who are parents overcome educational barriers and increase financial stability for their families."
The Unity Campaign is a collaboration between nonprofit partners, sponsors, and the greater Frederick community. It raises money for nonprofit organizations that support Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) households in need of food, shelter, clothing, financial sustainability, and healthcare.
The Parents Lead program was designed specifically to help parents attend FCC and earn a degree. Created for financially-eligible parents, it provides specialized curriculum, advising services, and funding to offset the costs of child-rearing.
A total of 50 students have been accepted into the FCC Parents Lead program since its inception in early 2018.
"I cannot even begin to express my gratitude for this program," Parents Lead student Jenny McCoy said while she was in the program. "The amount of support absolutely goes above and beyond anything I could have hoped for. Financially, without these scholarships, going back to school would not have been an option."
