Feisty, Quick-Witted Heroine Unravels the Mystery Behind Carol-Inspired Serial Killings in 'The Twelve Murders of Christmas'
The seventh installment of Jane Bennett Munro's Toni Day Mystery series centers around a vengeful killer who leaves behind clues in Christmas cards
TWIN FALLS, Idaho, Sept. 14, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- As Twin Falls residents dream of a white Christmas, a ruthless serial killer threatens to paint the town red in Jane Bennett Munro's latest addition to her beloved mystery series. Fun and festively frightening, "The Twelve Murders of Christmas: A Toni Day Mystery" follows pathologist and amateur sleuth Toni Day as she finds herself at the center of a hunt for a vindictive criminal who sends her hints to his next victims through holiday cards containing macabre renditions of "The Twelve Days of Christmas."
After receiving the first card containing an eerie illustration of a corpse under a tree accompanied by the sinister verse, "on the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me a Partridge under a tree," Toni immediately suspects something is afoul in Twin Falls. Her astute instincts prove correct when the body of Ralph Partridge is later discovered in the same manner depicted in the drawing. With the help of her friends and colleagues, Toni discovers that not only is her ex-boyfriend and stalker, Robbie, out on parole but that the first victim is one of twelve jurors whose guilty verdict put him in prison for the kidnapping and attempted murder of her husband, Hal.
However, the case is not as cut-and-dry as it seems, and other suspects soon start cropping up, including a pesky reporter who possesses an ice pick that matches the cause of death for each of the victims. As the police trail behind and the jury members continue to turn up dead, Toni teams up with her stepfather, Nigel, a retired Scotland Yard chief inspector, to decipher the clues and help apprehend the killer before the deadly Christmas carol arrives at its crescendo.
Like the other books in the series, "The Twelve Murders of Christmas" draws heavily from Munro's experience as a pathologist, offering a realistic perspective on the forensics side of a criminal investigation. Paired with a familiar ensemble of eccentric and likeable characters and a callback to a prior villain, the book offers a fun and festively frightening storyline that will excite new readers and series followers alike.
"Munro's writing is entertaining, believable, and fast-paced," wrote the US Review of Books about "Two Much Blood." "She takes you into the autopsy room, shows the fragility of the characters, and makes the reader feel they are inside the story."
"Munro has plotted a rich whodunit with character reveals and plot reversals worthy of Agatha Christie, all in service of a plot steeped in Toni's medical lore," wrote Blue Ink Review about "Grievous Bodily Harm."
